Although it is known that municipalities, as key players in the transport transition, are increasingly using consultative public participation in planning, to date there has been no systematic survey of the extent and the characteristics of such participation processes. Therefore, the CIMT project systematically gathered consultative, discursive participation processes for mobility-related planning that have been carried out in German cities since 2015.
Specifically, three different surveys were conducted:
- Complete survey of all 80 cities that had adopted guidelines for participation (as of July 2020)
- Stratified random sample (N=100) from cities with at least 5,000 inhabitants in three federal states (Baden-Württemberg, Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia)
- Complete survey of the three city states of Berlin, Bremen and Hamburg
The database thus contains a total of 348 procedures from 90 cities. A detailed analysis of the data can be found in our article in the journal Raumforschung und Raumordnung from spring 2024. The database is available here for research and download.
